Origin

Slightly set back from the Grands Crus vineyards, Montée de Tonnerre seems to be challenging the Climat right across from it, Blanchot. Its moderate slopes, exposed to the west, welcome the sun in the afternoon.

The grapes ripen easily, especially since they are protected from the East winds. The shallow soil is underlain with Kimmeridgian marly limestone, and reveals veins of blue clay, which gives the wines both minerality and energy.

Montée de Tonnerre
covers approximately 42.5 hectares, including Chapelot, Côte de Bréchain and Pied d'Aloup.

Vinification and maturing

- both grapes and must were brought in, long pneumatic pressing, followed by static settling,
- alcoholic fermentation began in Stainless steel tanks, 3 days later, 35% of the juice is put into fine-grained barrels 1-2 years old, followed by malolactic fermentation,
- stirring of the lees for the part in oak barrels, and ageing for 17 months on fine lees.

Vintage : 2023

The ideal weather conditions in Burgundy in 2023, characterised by a favourable spring, a hot summer with cool nights, moderate rainfall and an early autumn harvest, played a key role in the high yields and exceptional quality of the grapes at harvest time. The white wines are distinguished by their elegance, complexity and liveliness. Subtle aromas of white fruit, citrus and floral notes add to their remarkable freshness. The red wines are powerful and well-balanced, with aromas of red and black fruit, as well as spicy and mineral nuances. The silky tannins add an elegant structure, promising harmonious ageing. In short, these are expressive, fruity wines with very fine aromatic profiles.
